About your instructor:
Jessi Highet is the owner of the eponymous dye studio,
Jessi Highet Studio. She grew up in Allentown, PA where she learned a variety of soft goods crafting from female family members and neighbors. These ladies taught her how to quilt, crochet, sew, embroider, and for her 7th birthday party, tie dye! Jessi moved to NYC for college in 2008 and graduated from Parsons in 2012 with an even more built out textile based repertoire. Right away she began to put her skills to use as a freelancer. In 2018, a very cool small fashion company, Collina Strada, reached out for some help dyeing samples. This one-off project ended up turning into a repeat client each season and then into full-fledged dye production for the brand. Now Jessi Highet Studio dyes between 1500 - 10,000 garments a year for Collina Strada and other small fashion brands. In her personal work, Jessi paint abstract landscapes with dye on silk and explores the color variations that can be made with natural materials like flowers, produce, and clay. She also walks all over the best city in the world with
Highley Varlet and helps to reform Brooklyn politics with
NKD.
